Yoga Community

Anya Foxen has maintained a personal yoga practice since 2005 and is a certified instructor of postural yoga. She completed her training in 2007 with Jimmy Barkan . Barkan's approach stems from the Bishnu Ghosh lineage of yoga in Calcutta.

Dr. Foxen remains involved in the yoga community and is available for lectures, workshops, and teacher training modules. She specializes in the following topics:

  • Modern History of Yoga: how does what we do on the mat connect to yoga's pre-modern roots?
  • Sanskrit for Yoga and Kirtan: what is your yoga teacher saying?
  • The Yoga Sutras and yoga philosophy: what does Patanjali have to do with our practice?
  • The Bhagavad Gita: what is the wider context of yoga within Indian/Hindu spiritual traditions?

Dr. Foxen lives in Santa Barbara, CA and her ability to travel outside the state is limited by her academic teaching schedule, but please get in touch to inquire about possible arrangements.
